Gosh, this movie is full of these quotes that go against those little pathetic cliche bullshit. And I just love those quotes as well as those cliche.
Where to start. This is the movie that explored the notion I call: norm vs. outcast. The outcasts are the ones who think they could see the "bigger picture", think that the norm is disgusting and don't want to be any part of it, is cynical of everything that is a part of the norm. The average people in the norm are those who live by those cliches, think that life should be like getting a beautiful women/cute guy and live in a house with high walls and nice backyards and they would definitely think these outcast are crazy and out of the world.
But there is no way out. As the outcasts grew more cynical they would be more detached from this world; and as the average human beings alienate more of their outcast counterparts, the outcasts would become castaways and their ideas (which is supposed to be smarter, more insightful) would have a even lower chance of getting heard in the mainstream.
So this movie showed us that these people can evolve together, they can learn from each other. Boris marrying Boris was the first step he took to get out of his comfort zone. We should always be open to new ideas. The average people (we) should always give a second thought to those cliches that people has been saying over and over, while those outcasts should never be too bound by their cynical thoughts and demonizing the wisdom of the mass.
Whatever works. We should always open to ideas and things that work. I guess this is what Woody wants to tell us this time, although he almost used the Boris character to dump all his anger about the "norm perception" on values, religions, sexuality and relationships.
But somehow I think there is a real danger out there that those "normal" people (in my opinion) will watch this movie and then rationalize their stupid ideas that they are definitely going to regret and they know it but they are still going to do it anyway by saying: whatever works.
