I think we finally need to face the fact that we eventually have a female character on TV that is created with almost zero intention of meritocracy but simply a testimonial that whoever tells you looks don’t matter is the world’s biggest liar and life is colossally easier if you’re easy on the eye. As a girl who is not particularly nice or cheerful, or talented, or in any way keen on making others happy, Robin clearly has never run out of luck in being pampered by the whole world, being the girl who is believed to be 'the one' by almost every man she runs into, the dream come true, the red balloon that no men would let go even if it means an otherwise highly fulfiled and satisfying life tainted.
She comes off vulnerable, conflicted, tortured, never satisfied, as if wronged by something to an admirer's eye that is purely evil because it is simply gruesome to see someone like her not treated with all the benevolence the world has to offer. Everything she does seems reasonable, or at least tolerable.
Her success is recognised and celebrated in every way it can be recognised and celebrated. Her failures are brushed off as some made-up imperfections that only make her more real and adorable. "She's never alone." "She's worth the troubles." "I would steal an whole orchestra for you." "There're no top five. There's only top one. There's only you."
Because, drum-roll, she is, wait for it, hot.
The human nature of being involuntarily drawn to people who are physically attactive in turns testifies just how fleeting, unreliable and trivial affection could be to one another, and therefore how ridiculous it is to waste life on pursuing such an illusion. I would like an out, right now, to a happiness built on something I can actually feel, and the privilege of feeling what could make me happy.
