Eine Entscheidung kann nicht auf ein Auswahlprinzip zurückbezogen werden, sondern trifft unmittelbar das Ganze des Daseins. Mit ihr bestimmt das Dasein, was es selbst ist. Wo z.B. die Berufswahl als eine Entscheidung erfahren wird, geht es nicht um den "günstigsten", "aussichtsreichsten", "einträglichsten" Erwerb unter allen "Möglichkeiten", sondern um das Profil des Daseins selbst. Wer in dieser Weise Fischer (Arzt, Flieger, Schmied) ist, ist es auch wirklich. Er gibt sich damit zwar eine Beschränkung, deren behindernde und verendlichende Kraft nicht unterschätzt werden darf, verschafft sich damit freilich auch eine Entschiedenheit, die eine bestimmte Durchsetzungskraft und Überlegenheit zur Folge hat.
Entsteht aus einer Wahl eine Entscheidung, so verwandelt sich die Handlungsbühne, und es tritt ein anderes Struckturmodell in Kraft. Wird diese Verwandlung nicht mitvollzogen, so verklemmt sich die Wahl zur Unentscheidbarkeit, denn die Entscheidung verliert alle Auswahlprinzipien und gewinnt dennoch kein neues Sinnkriterium. Sich als Ganzes stellen bedeutet für das Dasein, in einer einzelnen Möglichkeit das Ganze seines Profils unmittelbar zu leben. Die Möglichkeit verliert ihre Einschränkung - und damit ihre Abgrenzung zu anderen Möglichkeiten; es gibt nicht mehr "verschiedene Möglichkeiten". Die Entscheidungsmöglichkeit ist nur eine, sie ist das Ganze der Existenzmöglichkeit selbst.
Jede entscheidene Tat bestimmt auch noch ihre Vorgeschichte, setzt neue Bedeutungen und setzt sie so, dass aus ihnen die Notwendigkeit eben dieser Tat erfließt; sie prägt die zu ihr gehörige Geschichte aus, sie handelt mit derselben Energie zurück wie voraus und lässt damit das Leben aus dem Punkt entspringen. In diesem Sinne ist nichts Gewesenes vergangen. In allgemeinster Form kann gesagt werden, die richtige Entscheidung ist die, die eine Entscheidung ist. Und in der Tat enthüllt sich bei näherem Zusehen eine jede Entscheidungssituation nicht etwa als die Vorlage gleichrangiger "Möglichkeiten", sondern als das Angebot einer Möglichkeit neben lauter Auswegen.

DECISION

A decision cannot be reduced to a process of selection but rather affects an individual's entire existence. Indeed, it defines that individual's existence. When the choice of a career is considered as a decision, for example, what is at stake is not a decision about whether it is the most "convenient", "promising" or "lucrative" profession among all the "possibilities", but rather the profile of the individual's existence itself. Whoever in this manner becomes a fisherman (doctor, pilot, blacksmith), is that person in reality. He or she thus freely accepts certain limitations with clearly restrictive and at times oppressive effects, but thereby also creates a decisiveness that brings a certain forcefulness and superiority.
Whenever a decision arises from a choice, then the stage of action is transformed and another structural model comes into force. If this transformation does not take place, then the choice is reduced to indecision; the decision completely lose the principle of selection without gaining a new, meaningful criterion. To be and act as a whole means to directly experience the whole of one's profile in a single possibility. The possibiliy thus loses its limitations and its demarcation to other possibilities; various "different possibilies" no longer exist. Decision involves one single possibility, and that is the whole possibility of existence itself.
Every decision action also determines its post history, it establishes new meanings and organizes these in such a manner that the necessity of the deed flows from them. It shapes its past history, acting with the same energy towards the past as towards the future; life thus springs from a single point. In this sense, nothing is ever past. Expressed in the most general terms it can be said that the right decision is the one that is a decision. And in fact, upon closer inspection, the situation in which the decision is made no longer appears as the presentation of comparable "possibilities", but as the offer of a single possibility amongst other options that are merely an escape.
