One word that I can blurt after watching Amazing Grace is astonishment. The slave trade history, the situation went in the British parliament and also the bravery of those pioneers who kept consistently fight for the belief that all men were born equal by God...All those characters and scenes exist in History textbook suddenly turn up vividly on the screen and the elegant melody of amazing grace spread a seduction that not only Christian but people with conscience would sympathy the catastrophe of the African.
In the beginning of the movie, the director told us that William Wilberforce has been long battle for the movement of abolishing the evil slave trade. He was seriously sick and have no choice but to take a rest at the countryside villa of his cousin`s. However his mind can hardly help thinking about the quarrelling scene at the parliament. Then the story dates back to 15 years ago when William was about to striving for the amazing grace from the very beginning.
At the age of 21, William was persuaded by his dearest friend Billy to join the parliament in order to support his personal political career. Hence, the abolishment of slave trade has always been the target during their political career. Later Billy became the youngest president in British history. Billy as well as William were first under the direction of a slave leader Thomas and a free black writer Equiano, They both encourage William participate in the politics as well as God`s grace. He later had successive heated quarrelling with some conservative representatives to against the cruelty and of the slave trade. However what he did were in vain at first due to some profit chain between the slave trade and those representatives. Strong-minded William never tend to Satan`s side. As a holy Christian, God`s grace for all human race lightened his inner passion when he felt lost and miserable. He later met his lover Barbara, who held the same goal as William and got married. They kept going on striving in the parliament for the abolishment. His proposal was finally accepted as opposed to the majority non-Christian in the parliament. The holy hymn of amazing grace later scattered though the whole nation, more and more people took on William’s sides. The time William departed the parliament, the percentage of Christian in the parliament altered from one only to hundreds...God`s amazing grace finally came to the ground.
The battle on the parliament house is usually considered as a war without smoke. Through the development of history, we can see clearly that only the radical activist could construct a new order in the society. Britain proudly can say himself did a good role model to the whole world. One can against a tough issue which the majority support but eventually won .I believe apart from his individual intensity ,the comparatively democratic system promote his success to a large extent. And that`s the most precious thing in one nation`s development.
Being a fan of romantic and active movie, such historian story sometimes also capture my mind and force me to think deeper underneath the content surface. Amazing Grace is a feeling of history, a blending culture mixture with religion and human rights. God provide everyone the same chance, what you choose determine your life path. You may stumble at first but you step print will be kept alone the path forever in human civilization.
