Dirty

Dirty retains elements that distinguish his early work, which was influenced by Warhol in both the visual content and the use of long takes. the film was projected and selectively re-filmed sveral years later. Dwoskin's original material shows two partially naked girls fooling around on an unkempt bed, drinking a bottle of wine.

The atomosphere is erotically charged, but not pornographic. the re-filming generates a sexual and visual tension by freezing or isolating specific images, amplifying the grain of the film stock and reducing the resolution of the images. in choosing to crop into the image, Dwoskin privilegs particular elements of the camera, such as an outstretched hand or a tangle of legs, that become abstracted at an enlarged scale.

In doing this, he picks out the dirt, splices and other impurities that are now permanently combined with the footage he had originally photographed.
