Have always been fascinated by any movie or documentary set in the undersea world - so I was really excited about the movie. Not sure if I really like the high tech Atlantis - it’s almost like a merge of Thor’s Asgard and Black Panther’s Wakanda - only that it’s set under the sea. Visuals are great but a bit overdone. The plot and theme is quite cliche, but ocean pollution is always a good reminder to us. I did have a few laughs at the jokes but they are a bit unaligned with the overall tone of the film, making them a bit out of place - Thor Ragnarok’s light and funny tone is way better executed in comparison. Nicole Kidman and Amber Heard’s grace and charm is a great plus - DC’s only upper hand vs Marvel seems to be the casting of female leads/supporting characters haha. Despite all my picky comments (probably partially due to my high expectation), it’s still a pretty good movie and I still look forward to the sequel - hopefully with better execution.
