Plot Summary:It is hard to to imagine a time when international conflict had to be resolved over great distances and excruciating suspense, when communication between the world's most powerful leaders depended on the bike courier, telegraphing, and translation services that stood between them. In October 1962, the discovery that Soviet mid-range missiles were being secretly installed in Cuba sent President Kennedy into a strategic panic.
