This is a record of the student uprising at the Takasaki College of Economics, also an independent film which signed the national student movement in the late 1960s. The director adopted “candid camera” in this film. Though effective, he never used again in his later works.
“Now, what will people see if they want to live with more dignity? / Distress, anger, and tears / All of a sudden, what does this standing power mean? / We’ve learnt some important words / A love to something/ Silence are under the erosion of power / Devotion and sacrifice / Dozens of uprising students at the Takasaki College of Economics/ Currently, some students are put into prison, while some still stayed inside the student hall. In the desperate darkness, their lives are burning with dazzling flame / Just give me the strength / Words of humanity said by cornered students / Corruption does not mean self-collapse / Strength comes from people who are prepared to sacrifice everything / We did saw these.” (Words of Ogawa and his staff, from Ogawa Shinsuke’s Harvesting Films)
